Old Fort Letter

The Fort Morgan Museum recently acquired a letter sent from the Old Fort in 1867. The letter is a very important part of our community history.

The Fort Morgan Museum has speculated that there were problems with desertion at the original Fort Morgan, from which the town of Fort Morgan was named. But a recently acquired letter written by a soldier at the fort confirms that desertion was an issue, according to museum Educator Andrew Dunehoo.

Dinner in the Galleries

This past fall the Museum added a new item to our annual fundraising auction, dinner in the galleries. We auctioned off eight seats for a catered five course dinner held in the lower level gallery. This was an idea one of our boardmembers had and it proved to be a success. But the best part? Nick catered it. That’s right, an evening in the gallery surrounded by Nick’s art, eating Nick’s food, and after dinner talking to Nick about the pieces in the show.

Artist Reception for Nick Ng

The Museum hosted a reception for Nick Ng.  It was very well attended with over 130 people enjoying the evening.  Some of the younger visitor weren’t that interested in looking at the art, but they did enjoy making their own art.

January Brown Bag

Artist Nick Ng was the featured speaker at January’s Brown Bag.  Ng will have a one man show at the museum opening January 15 and running through mid-March.

Tuesday he spoke about how he created his art, which is politcaly pointed collage.  Nick’s background is varied and included drama, art, accounting, and economics.  His cultural heritage is also a mixed bag including Chinese and French and being raised in Great Britain.  All of these pieces combine to make art that is light and fun when you first look at it, but on second look contains biting social commentary.

Nick’s show opens Tuesday, January 15.  There will be an artists reception Thursday, January 17 from 6-8 pm in the Lower Level gallery of the museum, 414 Main Street
